The Carino's Foundation

March 02, 2012

The year is still young but we've been busy at the Carino's Foundation. 2012 is already presenting many great ways to make a difference in the world around us.

We are excited to again partner with Autism Speaks as a statewide sponsor of Walk Now for Autism Speaks in Texas. Walk Now will be held in various cities across Texas throughout the year, including: Abilene, Midland/Odessa, San Angelo, Austin, Dallas/Ft. Worth and Houston. Want to get involved? Visit their website to learn more about a Walk Now event in your area or to start your own Walk team. It's not only a great cause, it's a lot of fun too!

The Carino's Foundation has continued our annual support of Parent Project Muscular Dystrophy (PPMD) as part of our $500,000 pledge to this amazing organization. We do this in memory of our friend Zach and in honor of all boys fighting Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD). In addition to PPMD, this year we will also support Champions to CureDuchenne on April 27th in Austin. Hosted by Mack Brown of the University of Texas, this event raises funds to help find a cure for this devastating disease. DMD affects about 200,000 boys worldwide and it is always fatal. Organizations like PPMD and CureDuchenne are working tirelessly to save these boys, and I am proud to stand with them in their efforts. Get your tickets to Champions to CureDuchenne today and come join me.

Much more is on the horizon for 2012, including one of my favorite events of the year: the Gold Stirrup Horse Show at Rodeo Austin. Gold Stirrup is one of the largest horse shows in Texas for adults with special needs. Rodeo Austin partners with area organizations like Marbridge and the Ride On Center for Kids to provide an exciting arena where these special competitors can showcase their equestrian skills. With the Carino's Foundation sponsorship providing all the entry fees, the size of the show has increased dramatically over the last several years. It is a heartwarming experience for everyone involved and I look forward to sharing stories and photos of this year's show in a few weeks.

Until then, thanks again to everyone who enables the Carino's Foundation to do what we love to do. I hope this inspires you to find your own ways to give back and make your corner of the world a little brighter for someone else.
